My iPod touch freezes whenever i try to restore it!?

i have a 32 gb 3rd gen ipod touch that was originally jail broken using red snow. it was running Ios 4.3.1 and i wanted to update it so i tired to restore it. it would work fine until the end. the progress bar on the iPod and on the computer would freeze with a tiny bit left and just stay like that for hours. i really need this ipod to work and fast! HELPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!
